                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending North Springs High School and the Spartan Band, 
  1- 2  Auxiliaries, and Chorus; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, North Springs High School is the only Arts and 
  1- 4  Sciences magnet program in Georgia and a Georgia School of 
  1- 5  Excellence; and 
 
  1- 6  WHEREAS, North Springs High School has been recognized as 
  1- 7  "an outstanding American high school" by U.S. News and World 
  1- 8  Report; and 
 
  1- 9  WHEREAS, graduates of North Springs High School have 
  1-10  distinguished themselves academically and have one of the 
  1-11  highest rates among college students of retaining the Hope 
  1-12  Scholarship after their freshman years; and 
 
  1-13  WHEREAS, the music program at North Springs High School has 
  1-14  been recognized as having contributed to the academic 
  1-15  success of the students at North Springs High School; and 
 
  1-16  WHEREAS, the student musicians of North Springs High School 
  1-17  have been consistently recognized as student leaders in 
  1-18  their community, region, state, and nation; and 
 
  1-19  WHEREAS, the Spartan Marching and Symphonic Band, the 
  1-20  Spartan Rhythm Company, the Dorian Guard, and the North 
  1-21  Springs High School Chorus have consistently received 
  1-22  "Superior" ratings from the Georgia Music Educators 
  1-23  Association; and 
 
  1-24  WHEREAS, under the leadership of band director Herb Cox, 
  1-25  assistant band director Mike Walsh, Spartan Rhythm Company 
  1-26  director Vivian Smith and chorus director Jenny Rawson, the 
  1-27  student musicians of North Springs High School have 
  1-28  performed in Europe and the Caribbean as well as in the 
  1-29  United States; and 
 
  1-30  WHEREAS, in April of 2000, the student musicians of North 
  1-31  Springs High School will represent young people of the State 
  1-32  of Georgia at a series of performances in England, Wales, 
  1-33  and France; and 
 
  1-34  WHEREAS, Governor Barnes has designated the North Springs 
  1-35  High School Spartan Marching and Symphonic Band, the Spartan

  2- 1  Rhythm Company, the Dorian Guard, and the North Springs High 
  2- 2  School Chorus as Goodwill Ambassadors of the State of 
  2- 3  Georgia. 
 
  2- 4  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  2- 5  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the 
  2- 6  exemplary and superior musical accomplishments of the North 
  2- 7  Springs High School Spartan Marching and Symphonic Band, the 
  2- 8  Spartan Rhythm Company, the Dorian Guard, and the North 
  2- 9  Springs High School Chorus and extend to the students and 
  2-10  directors their sincerest best wishes for their 2000 
  2-11  European Tour. 
 
  2-12  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2-13  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  2-14  appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Peter Zervakos,
