A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending Mary Grace and Simmie Driggers; and for other
1- 2 purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Mary Grace and Simmie Driggers have fostered more
1- 4 than 130 children in 25 years of dedicated, faithful,
1- 5 compassionate service as foster parents to children in need
1- 6 of shelter, care, and stability; and
1- 7 WHEREAS, they have adopted 7 of their foster children and
1- 8 are currently in the process of adopting a sibling group of
1- 9 5; and
1-10 WHEREAS, their exemplary record of service began in 1973
1-11 when they applied to become adoptive parents; and
1-12 WHEREAS, they have maintained contact through the years with
1-13 many of their foster children, including one who is now in
1-14 prison, and they have often befriended the birth parents of
1-15 their foster children, offering advice when asked, and
1-16 making sure birth parents are trained to care for the
1-17 special needs of frail children; and
1-18 WHEREAS, presently they have 14 children living in their
1-19 home who gather around a kitchen table which is 16 feet long
1-20 for Mrs. Driggers' wonderful home cooking; and
1-21 WHEREAS, all the children have matching Christmas outfits to
1-22 wear during the holiday season, stiched with love by Mrs.
1-23 Driggers; and
1-24 WHEREAS, despite the hard work in caring for so many
1-25 children, many with physical or emotional problems, their
1-26 house is filled with laughter and love, the evidence of
1-27 faith in action; and
1-28 WHEREAS, they are effective advocates for their children,
1-29 willing to question birth parents and caseworkers if they
1-30 feel their children aren't getting what they need, and they
1-31 have provided valuable help to publicize the need for more
1-32 foster parents; and
1-33 WHEREAS, they treat each child as an individual and a member
1-34 of the family, and their influence on the lives of children
1-35 in need has been remarkable.

2- 1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2- 2 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mary
2- 3 Grace and Simmie Driggers for providing a priceless service
2- 4 to the state through their dedication, patience,
2- 5 perseverance, and hard work through 25 years of love and
2- 6 compassionate care for foster children.
2- 7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2- 8 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2- 9 appropriate copy of this resolution to Mary Grace and Simmie
2-10 Driggers.
