A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Expressing regret at the passing of Steve Schildecker; and
1- 2 for other purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, on January 11, 1998, the State of Georgia lost one
1- 4 of its finest and most distinguished citizens with the
1- 5 untimely passing of Steve Schildecker; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, he was an honest and dedicated law enforcement
1- 7 professional who strived for excellence in all his endeavors
1- 8 and whose primary concern was the welfare and safety of the
1- 9 citizens of this state; and
1-10 WHEREAS, he diligently and conscientiously devoted
1-11 innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward
1-12 the betterment of his community and state and was a man of
1-13 unquestioned integrity and dedication to the administration
1-14 of justice and sound principles of law enforcement; and
1-15 WHEREAS, this beloved individual exhibited extraordinary
1-16 devotion to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and
1-17 meticulous attention to detail in all his duties throughout
1-18 his career of peerless public service as a police officer in
1-19 DeKalb County for 14 years, chief of police of the Gwinnett
1-20 County Police Department from 1985 to 1988, director of
1-21 public safety of Gwinnett County from 1998 to 1993, and
1-22 finally as director of operations for the Georgia Emergency
1-23 Management Agency; and
1-24 WHEREAS, his unparalleled organizational and leadership
1-25 talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen
1-26 sense of vision, and his acute sensitivity to the needs of
1-27 the citizens of his community earned him the respect and
1-28 admiration of his colleagues and associates; and
1-29 WHEREAS, the untimely passing of this generous, unselfish,
1-30 and devoted family man leaves an unfillable void in the
1-31 hearts and lives of his family and friends.
1-32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-33 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their
1-34 deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Steve
1-35 Schildecker; commend the care, courage, sympathy, and
1-36 selfless dedication he exhibited in carrying out the

2- 1 difficult duties of law enforcement; and extend to his
2- 2 family their utmost appreciation for his having so purely
2- 3 and truly defined for others the meaning of public servant.
2- 4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2- 5 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2- 6 appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Steve
2- 7 Schildecker.
