A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending Dr. O. G. Daniel; and for other purposes.
1- 2 WHEREAS, on September 18, 1998, Dr. O. G. Daniel was
1- 3 singularly honored by induction into the Georgia
1- 4 Agricultural Hall of Fame in recognition of his
1- 5 extraordinary contributions to agriculture in this state;
1- 6 and
1- 7 WHEREAS, universally respected for his unimpeachable
1- 8 character, he has had an indelible impact on agriculture in
1- 9 Georgia since 1958 when he was appointed head of the
1-10 University of Georgia's Extension Animal Science Department;
1-11 and
1-12 WHEREAS, an innovator and organizer, Dr. Daniel revitalized
1-13 the Georgia 4-H livestock program, started the first state
1-14 extension newsletter, and played a significant role in
1-15 chartering the Georgia Cattlemen's Association and the Beef
1-16 Cattle Improvement Association and was strongly instrumental
1-17 in developing the Georgia Bull Testing Program and in
1-18 initiating cattle tele-auctions; and
1-19 WHEREAS, at the time of his retirement from the University
1-20 of Georgia in 1981, he was coordinating the activities of
1-21 over 40 animal scientists engaged in teaching, research, and
1-22 extension work; and
1-23 WHEREAS, many of his articles have been published in trade
1-24 and breed media across the country; and
1-25 WHEREAS, his accomplishments have earned him many other
1-26 honors and awards including Outstanding Graduate of Oklahoma
1-27 State University, Outstanding Extension Award from the
1-28 Agricultural Alumni Association, and the Georgia Farm
1-29 Bureau's Commodity Award; and
1-30 WHEREAS, he was named to the Hall of Fame of the Georgia
1-31 Cattlemen's Association and the Beef Improvement Federation
1-32 honored him with the Pioneer Award for his long-term
1-33 meritorious service to the livestock industry at the state
1-34 and national levels; and

2- 1 WHEREAS, since 1993, he has served as a board member of the
2- 2 American Gelbvieh Association and is an advisor to the
2- 3 American Gelbvieh Junior Association; and
2- 4 WHEREAS, in addition, he aids in recruiting outstanding
2- 5 students to the College of Agricultural and Environmental
2- 6 Sciences, guest lectures on beef production to undergraduate
2- 7 students and opens his farm for on-site visits by livestock
2- 8 classes at UGA; and
2- 9 WHEREAS, Dr. Daniel is a member of Colbert Baptist Church
2-10 where he has taught Sunday School for 25 years and served as
2-11 a Deacon for 22 years; and
2-12 WHEREAS, he resides in Madison County with his wife Nemah
2-13 and runs 160 head of cattle on their 500 acre farm.
2-14 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2-15 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Dr. O.
2-16 G. Daniel on his induction into the Georgia Agricultural
2-17 Hall of Fame and express sincerest gratitude for his
2-18 outstanding contributions to agriculture, the University of
2-19 Georgia, and the youth of this state.
2-20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2-21 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2-22 appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. O. G. Daniel.
