                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Recognizing and commending Paul Edward Thompson, Jr., on his 
  1- 2  retirement as Polk County Extension Agent; and for other 
  1- 3  purposes. 
 
  1- 4  WHEREAS, on December 31, 1998, Paul Edward Thompson, Jr., 
  1- 5  retired as Polk County Extension Agent after 15 years of 
  1- 6  dedicated service; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, Friday, December 11, 1998, was declared Paul 
  1- 8  Thompson Day in Polk County in recognition of his dedicated 
  1- 9  service; and 
 
  1-10  WHEREAS, he served as a county extension agent for 28 years, 
  1-11  including service in Screven, Brantley, and Effingham 
  1-12  counties prior to his becoming Polk County Extension Agent 
  1-13  in May, 1983; and 
 
  1-14  WHEREAS, he has worked tirelessly with the Polk County Farm 
  1-15  Bureau to implement Farm Day for third and fourth grade 
  1-16  students, was instrumental in creating the Recycling 
  1-17  Education Action Committee and served as one of its original 
  1-18  members, has been a member of the Cedartown Tree Commission 
  1-19  since its creation, and has worked with the Polk County 
  1-20  Cattleman's Association and the Polk County Fair; and 
 
  1-21  WHEREAS, he was the recipient of the Cedartown Kiwanis Club 
  1-22  Book of Golden Deeds for 1991, was named outstanding Georgia 
  1-23  extension agent for 1988 by the Atlanta Farmer's Club, and 
  1-24  was the recipient of the Georgia Clean and Beautiful Award 
  1-25  in 1997; and 
 
  1-26  WHEREAS, his active participation and supervision of 4-H 
  1-27  Clubs has instilled the young people of Polk County with the 
  1-28  finest qualities of leadership, citizenship, and service to 
  1-29  others. 
 
  1-30  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-31  REPRESENTATIVES that Paul Edward Thompson, Jr., is 
  1-32  recognized and commended for his many years of outstanding 
  1-33  service to the citizens of Polk County and the State of 
  1-34  Georgia, and he is extended best wishes on the occasion of 
  1-35  his retirement as Polk County Extension Agent.

  2- 1  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 2  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
