                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Honoring Mrs. E.W. Sports on the occasion of her 90th 
  1- 2  birthday; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, Mrs. E.W. Sports of Douglas, Georgia, known as 
  1- 4  "Mae" by her many friends, "Miss Mae" by her many young 
  1- 5  friends, and "Granny Mae" by her beloved grandchildren, was 
  1- 6  born on January 21, 1909, in Pierce County, Georgia; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, Mrs. Sports is a former school teacher who, in 
  1- 8  1930, married her long-time sweetheart, Elisha W. Sports, 
  1- 9  commencing a wonderful union of 60 years which produced 
  1-10  three children, Don, Joseph, and Ann, of whom the Sportses 
  1-11  were justifiably proud; and 
 
  1-12  WHEREAS, such parental love and good upbringing enabled Don 
  1-13  to own two radio stations and serve as president of the 
  1-14  Georgia Association of Broadcasters, Joseph to serve in 
  1-15  politics and as a television broadcaster, and Ann to enjoy 
  1-16  an excellent career as a school teacher for DeKalb County; 
  1-17  and 
 
  1-18  WHEREAS, Mrs. Sports holds the distinction of being one of 
  1-19  the longest serving members of the First Methodist Church in 
  1-20  Douglas.  She has a strong interest in her church and 
  1-21  community which has not ebbed as she approaches the age of 
  1-22  90 years old; and 
 
  1-23  WHEREAS, on Saturday, January 23, 1999, Mrs. Sports will be 
  1-24  the guest of honor at a reception honoring her 90th birthday 
  1-25  hosted by her admiring children, grandchildren, and 
  1-26  great-grandchildren at Sun Pointe in Douglas; and 
 
  1-27  WHEREAS, it is strong women such as Mrs. Sports who have 
  1-28  made the families and communities of Georgia the great 
  1-29  places to live, work, and worship that they are, and it is 
  1-30  only fitting that she be honored for all she has done. 
 
  1-31  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-32  REPRESENTATIVES that Mrs. Sports be honored on the great 
  1-33  occasion of her 90th birthday and that all best wishes be 
  1-34  sent her way.

  2- 1  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 2  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
