A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending the University of Georgia women's gymnastics team
1- 2 on becoming the 1998 NCAA Champions and inviting the team
1- 3 and coaches to appear before the House of Representatives;
1- 4 and for other purposes.
1- 5 WHEREAS, on April 18, 1998, the University of Georgia
1- 6 women's gymnastics team, the Gym Dogs, won the national
1- 7 title as the 1998 NCAA Champions and earned the fourth
1- 8 national championship in the proud history of the Georgia
1- 9 Gym Dogs; and
1-10 WHEREAS, these outstanding young athletes won the
1-11 championship with the largest margin of victory in over ten
1-12 years and finished their season undefeated at 35-0; and
1-13 WHEREAS, the Georgia Gym Dogs had the most gymnasts
1-14 competing in the individual event finals of any school with
1-15 seven finalists, and the team earned 18 first-team
1-16 All-America honors, surpassing any school in 1998; and
1-17 WHEREAS, the extraordinary achievements of these tremendous
1-18 athletes reflect their exceptional ability, motivation, and
1-19 perseverance and the expert training and experience of their
1-20 dedicated coaching staff.
1-21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-22 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the
1-23 University of Georgia women's gymnastics team on becoming
1-24 the 1998 NCAA Champions and heartily congratulate the team,
1-25 Coach Suzanne Yoculan, and the coaching staff on their
1-26 outstanding accomplishments.
1-27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the team and the
1-28 coaches are invited to appear before the House of
1-29 Representatives on a date and time to be determined by the
1-30 Speaker of the House of Representatives.
1-31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
1-32 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
1-33 appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach Suzanne
1-34 Yoculan.
