A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Honoring Mrs. James M. Heiskell and inviting her to appear
1- 2 before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Mrs. James M. Heiskell founded The Heiskell School
1- 4 in 1949 and has been a bold and uncompromising leader of
1- 5 Christian education for the past 50 years; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, she had demonstrated leadership in education in
1- 7 Georgia by devoting her resources and expertise to bring The
1- 8 Heiskell School to the forefront of excellent Christian
1- 9 education; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Mrs. Heiskell is committed to academic excellence
1-11 as demonstrated by the high standards set by The Heiskell
1-12 School and evidenced by the students achieving the top one
1-13 percent in the nation in scores on standardized achievement
1-14 tests; these students have gone on to be leaders in
1-15 industry, commerce, government, politics, education, law,
1-16 and medicine; and
1-17 WHEREAS, she is a devoted patriot who has taught children to
1-18 love and respect their country and its freedoms and has been
1-19 recognized by the Freedoms Foundation for her work in this
1-20 area; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Mrs. Heiskell is a champion for the family as
1-22 exhibited by her involvement of the whole family in the
1-23 education of a child; realizing the importance of parents
1-24 and school working hand in hand to promote Christian family
1-25 values and impart strong character traits; and
1-26 WHEREAS, she is an advocate for children; always seeking the
1-27 best educational opportunities for the individual child and
1-28 maintaining an open door policy to encourage and discuss
1-29 with students and former students their future endeavors and
1-30 callings; and
1-31 WHEREAS, Mrs. Heiskell has remained a faithful follower of
1-32 the Lord Jesus Christ as evidenced by her never wavering
1-33 from her commitment to insure that each Heiskell student
1-34 hears the Gospel; and

2- 1 WHEREAS, she is devoted to her family as a wife, mother, and
2- 2 grandmother; she has been a loyal supporter and encourager
2- 3 to those she loves; her children and grandchildren have
2- 4 looked to her as an example as they have taken leadership
2- 5 roles in their chosen professions; and
2- 6 WHEREAS, she is an energetic forerunner for developing
2- 7 Christian leaders and training teachers; with the strong
2- 8 emphasis on godly, moral character development, many former
2- 9 students and teachers have carried the training given them
2-10 by Mrs. Heiskell into their own chosen professions and
2-11 schools; and
2-12 WHEREAS, Mrs. Heiskell is an unforgettable, wise, and godly
2-13 woman; with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of energy and
2-14 vision, she has achieved a model school, and she has touched
2-15 the lives of countless individuals who have had the
2-16 privilege of knowing her.
2-17 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2-18 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mrs.
2-19 James M. Heiskell for 50 years of outstanding work in
2-20 educating Georgia students and for her part in securing the
2-21 the future of our state and country with leaders of strong
2-22 character, integrity, and principle.
2-23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Mrs. James M. Heiskell is
2-24 invited to appear before the House of Representatives at a
2-25 date and time to be determined by the Speaker.
2-26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2-27 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2-28 appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. James M.
2-29 Heiskell.
