A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Inviting certain citizens and public officials from Coweta
1- 2 County and the City of Newnan, Georgia, to the state capitol
1- 3 and designating January 28, 1999, as Coweta County Day at
1- 4 the Capitol; and for other purposes.
1- 5 WHEREAS, Coweta County is situated on land that once was the
1- 6 home of the Coweta Indians and was ceded by Chief William
1- 7 McIntosh in the Treaty of Indian Springs, signed by
1- 8 President James Monroe on March 5, 1825; and
1- 9 WHEREAS, Coweta County was created by the Georgia General
1-10 Assembly by an Act adopted on December 11, 1826, and in
1-11 March, 1828, land for a courthouse was purchased and a new
1-12 town was named in honor of General Daniel Newnan, a noted
1-13 Indian fighter, State Adjutant General, Secretary of State,
1-14 and U.S. Congressman; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Newnan produced two distinguished Georgia
1-16 Governors, William Yates Atkinson (1894-1896), who founded
1-17 Georgia State College for Women, and Ellis Gibbs Arnall
1-18 (1943-1947), who fathered Georgia's Constitution of 1945 and
1-19 numerous progressive public administration practices; and
1-20 WHEREAS, the concerns and views of elected officials from
1-21 the counties and cities of the state are always of interest
1-22 to members of the General Assembly; and
1-23 WHEREAS, it is an honor to welcome to the state capitol the
1-24 members of the Board of Commissioners of Coweta County, the
1-25 mayor and city council of the City of Newnan, and citizens
1-26 representing the local Chamber of Commerce and 21st Century
1-27 Coweta.
1-28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-29 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and
1-30 welcome citizens and public officials from Coweta County and
1-31 the City of Newnan, Georgia, and designate January 28, 1999,
1-32 as Coweta County Day at the Capitol.
1-33 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the citizens and public
1-34 officials representing Coweta County and the City of Newnan
1-35 on Coweta County Day at the Capitol are invited to appear

2- 1 before the House of Representatives at a date and time to be
2- 2 determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
2- 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2- 4 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2- 5 appropriate copy of this resolution to each of the citizens
2- 6 and public officials representing Coweta County and the City
2- 7 of Newnan on Coweta County Day at the Capitol.
