                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending the Valdosta High School football team and 
  1- 2  inviting the team's coaches to appear before the House of 
  1- 3  Representatives; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 4  WHEREAS, on December 19, 1998, the Valdosta High School 
  1- 5  Wildcats again assumed their familiar place as King of 
  1- 6  Georgia Class AAAA football; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, with clutch performances by quarterback Carlos 
  1- 8  Gatlin and a relentless defense that stymied top-ranked 
  1- 9  McEachern High School's prolific offense, the number seven 
  1-10  Wildcats clinched a 21-7 victory and claimed their 
  1-11  twenty-third state championship; and 
 
  1-12  WHEREAS, buoyed by the confidence instilled by a long and 
  1-13  honored tradition of excellence and success and by the 
  1-14  quality leadership of Head Coach Mike O'Brien, the Wildcats 
  1-15  overcame the negative expectations of prognosticators and 
  1-16  finished the season with an outstanding 14-1 record while 
  1-17  proving to be the champions they always knew themselves to 
  1-18  be; and 
 
  1-19  WHEREAS, as the winningest high school football team in the 
  1-20  country with an amazing overall record of 768-152-33, the 
  1-21  Wildcats have become legendary in Class AAAA football; and 
 
  1-22  WHEREAS, during the 1990's, the team has won three state 
  1-23  championships and amassed a winning record of 104-16-1; and 
 
  1-24  WHEREAS, reigniting the fire under the 1998 team, offensive 
  1-25  and defensive leaders Carlos Gatlin, Jason Dykes, Brett 
  1-26  Hester, Fred Stewart, Sam Rogers, Addren Johnson, and 
  1-27  Brandon Doggett performed with a maturity and commitment 
  1-28  that set the highest standards of performance for their 
  1-29  teammates; and 
 
  1-30  WHEREAS, the success of the Valdosta High School Wildcats 
  1-31  has inspired and united their entire community and installed 
  1-32  the team in the hearts of their fans. 
 
  1-33  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-34  REPRESENTATIVES that the greatness of the Valdosta High 
  1-35  School football team is duly recognized and congratulations

  2- 1  are extended on the winning of their twenty-third Class AAAA 
  2- 2  state championship. 
 
  2- 3  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Head Coach Mike O'Brien and his 
  2- 4  assistant coaches are invited to appear before the House of 
  2- 5  Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the 
  2- 6  Speaker of the House of Representatives. 
 
  2- 7  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 8  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  2- 9  appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach Mike
