A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending Michael A. Clements, of St. Marys, Georgia, and
1- 2 inviting him to appear before the House of Representatives;
1- 3 and for other purposes.
1- 4 WHEREAS, Michael A. Clements, is an outstanding student at
1- 5 Camden County High School who has repeatedly demonstrated
1- 6 exceptional talent in math, science, and music; and
1- 7 WHEREAS, academic achievements are sometimes less celebrated
1- 8 than athletic achievements; and
1- 9 WHEREAS, proficiency in academic endeavors has been and
1-10 continues to be vital to the discoveries that have
1-11 lengthened the span of our lives, illuminated our
1-12 understanding of the physical world, and offered hope for
1-13 solving the problems of today and the future; and
1-14 WHEREAS, in the eighth grade, he was team leader of the math
1-15 team for St. Marys Middle School, which placed second
1-16 overall in statewide competition; and
1-17 WHEREAS, he won the Georgia Math League Award in the tenth
1-18 and eleventh grades, achieved 100% in two Math League
1-19 competitions in the eleventh grade, and earned a perfect
1-20 score on the math portion of the SAT; and
1-21 WHEREAS, he was a member of the All State Band in the ninth
1-22 grade, principal tympanist for the All State Band in the
1-23 tenth grade, principal snare for the All State Band in the
1-24 eleventh grade, and attended the Governor's Honors Program
1-25 as a percussion major in the twelfth grade; and
1-26 WHEREAS, his science projects have been winning competitions
1-27 since the fourth grade, exhibiting increasing complexity and
1-28 creativity in a wide range of subjects, including pendulum
1-29 motion, decay rates of bouncing objects, vortex rings, chaos
1-30 and randomness in mechanical devices, and Pythagorean
1-31 triads; and
1-32 WHEREAS, his latest project, "A Study of Parallel Circuit
1-33 Systems that Use Chaos to Encode and Decode Signals," won
1-34 first place in the Physics State Fair, a scholarship from
1-35 the University of Georgia Foundation, the NASA Award for

2- 1 Outstanding Scientific Endeavor, and the Yale Science and
2- 2 Engineering Award and Pewter Medallion for Most Outstanding
2- 3 Eleventh Grade Exhibit.
2- 4 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2- 5 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend
2- 6 Michael A. Clements for his remarkable academic and musical
2- 7 abilities and achievements, predict a brilliant future for
2- 8 him, and invite him to appear before the House of
2- 9 Representatives at a time and date to be designated by the
2-10 Speaker of the House of Representatives.
2-11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2-12 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2-13 appropriate copy of this resolution to Michael A. Clements.
