                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending SAFE KIDS of Georgia in Polk County and inviting 
  1- 2  Coordinator Eydie Davis and representatives of the coalition 
  1- 3  to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other 
  1- 4  purposes. 
 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, SAFE KIDS of Georgia in Polk County was named 1998 
  1- 6  Coalition of the Year for the State of Georgia in 
  1- 7  recognition of its exemplary efforts to prevent childhood 
  1- 8  injury; and 
 
  1- 9  WHEREAS, the SAFE KIDS of Georgia, founded in 1988 as an 
  1-10  affiliate of the national campaign, is coordinated by 
  1-11  Egleston Children's Health Care System, and is chaired this 
  1-12  year by the First Lady of Georgia, Marie Barnes; and 
 
  1-13  WHEREAS, Georgia is proud of its network of 46 local 
  1-14  volunteer coalitions throughout the state devoted to raising 
  1-15  public awareness about injury prevention; and 
 
  1-16  WHEREAS, in the short history of SAFE KIDS in Georgia, 
  1-17  coalition members rallied to support the successful passage 
  1-18  of mandatory bicycle helmet legislation in 1993 which earned 
  1-19  Georgia national distinction and recognition from the World 
  1-20  Health Organization; and 
 
  1-21  WHEREAS, Eydie Davis was instrumental in founding the Polk 
  1-22  County coalition in 1997, and under her able leadership a 
  1-23  strong foundation of volunteers have been enlisted to 
  1-24  provide public education, training, and community 
  1-25  initiatives aimed at child protection; and 
 
  1-26  WHEREAS, SAFE KIDS of Georgia in Polk County is an excellent 
  1-27  example of a community volunteer group that has exercised 
  1-28  its deep sense of responsibility to make Georgia a safer 
  1-29  place for children. 
 
  1-30  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-31  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and 
  1-32  commend SAFE KIDS of Georgia in Polk County for their superb 
  1-33  accomplishments and honors and invite Eydie Davis and 
  1-34  representatives from the coalition to appear before this 
  1-35  body at a time to be determined by the Speaker of the House 
  1-36  of Representatives.

  2- 1  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 2  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
