                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Designating the C. F. "Coote" Mason Highway; and for other 
  1- 2  purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, C. F. "Coote" Mason was born on December 7, 1907, 
  1- 4  in Fannin County, Georgia; and 
 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, he was united in marriage to Blanche Fortner on 
  1- 6  December 22, 1931, and their union was blessed with two 
  1- 7  children, William Mason, Sr., and Joyce Ann Mason Mitchell; 
  1- 8  five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and 
 
  1- 9  WHEREAS, raised in a loving home where family values and the 
  1-10  work ethic were stressed and valued, he assumed the 
  1-11  responsibility of caring for his family at the age of 11 
  1-12  following his father's death; and 
 
  1-13  WHEREAS, although he had little formal education, he was 
  1-14  highly intelligent and learned quickly the skills necessary 
  1-15  for his development and advancement in society; and 
 
  1-16  WHEREAS, he first went into business for himself operating 
  1-17  the Georgia Filling Station in McCaysville, Georgia; and 
 
  1-18  WHEREAS, in 1932, he opened a General Mercantile Store in 
  1-19  Epworth, Georgia, which expanded into a farm equipment 
  1-20  dealership under contract with the Ford Motor Company; and 
 
  1-21  WHEREAS, a decision to relocate the business to Blue Ridge, 
  1-22  Georgia, in 1960 to take advantage of a new highway proved 
  1-23  to be advantageous and his business grew and prospered; and 
 
  1-24  WHEREAS, eventually joined in the business by his son and a 
  1-25  grandson, Mr. Mason remained active in the dealership until 
  1-26  1995; and 
 
  1-27  WHEREAS, he is a long time member and deacon of the Epworth 
  1-28  First Baptist Church which his parents helped to organize 
  1-29  when he was a boy and is also a charter member of the 
  1-30  Epworth Community Club; and 
 
  1-31  WHEREAS, he continues to have a keen interest in the 
  1-32  activities of his church and community. 
 
  1-33  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF 
  1-34  GEORGIA that the members of this body designate State

  2- 1  Highway 5 from the intersection of State Highway 515 North 
  2- 2  to the Tennessee border as the C. F. "Coote" Mason Highway 
  2- 3  in honor of this distinguished citizen and do hereby request 
  2- 4  that all governing bodies and their agencies recognize this 
  2- 5  name and that proper notice of this resolution be published 
  2- 6  and awarded to all and, further, that appropriate signs be 
  2- 7  placed along the roadway declaring it as such. 
 
  2- 8  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Georgia Department of 
  2- 9  Transportation is authorized and directed to place and 
  2-10  maintain appropriate signs designating the C. F. "Coote" 
  2-11  Mason. 
 
  2-12  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2-13  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
