                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending John Edward "Ed" Nix; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 2  WHEREAS, John Edward "Ed" Nix was born on June 19, 1930, in 
  1- 3  Cumming, Georgia.  Now Mr. Nix is a long-time resident of 
  1- 4  Mableton, Georgia, with his wife of 44 years, Barbara; and 
 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, Mr. Nix is a musician and songwriter whose big hit 
  1- 6  was "Thank God and Greyhound" which was recorded in 1970 by 
  1- 7  Roy Clark and rose to #6 on the charts; and 
 
  1- 8  WHEREAS, "Thank God and Greyhound" was published by BMI 
  1- 9  records and became a million seller, resonating with country 
  1-10  boys all across the South and indeed the nation; and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, Mr. Nix played on the road in bands for twelve 
  1-12  years in his younger days and is friends with such country 
  1-13  music greats as Pete Drake and Merle Haggard; and 
 
  1-14  WHEREAS, Mr. Nix worked for Venable Music Co., for 33 years, 
  1-15  sharing his musical knowledge and good humor with customers 
  1-16  and friends; and 
 
  1-17  WHEREAS, Mr. Nix then became employed by the Cobb County 
  1-18  School System and recently and deservedly retired; and 
 
  1-19  WHEREAS, it is people like Mr. Nix who make the communities 
  1-20  of Georgia the great places to live, work, worship, and 
  1-21  listen to music that they are and it is only fitting and 
  1-22  proper to honor his many contributions to the music industry 
  1-23  and to the State of Georgia. 
 
  1-24  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-25  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend John 
  1-26  Edward "Ed" Nix on his musical career, thank him for his 
  1-27  enjoyable hit, "Thank God and Greyhound," and wish him all 
  1-28  the success in his retirement from the Cobb County School 
  1-29  System. 
 
  1-30  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-31  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  1-32  appropriate copy of this resolution to John Edward "Ed" Nix.
