A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending the Thomas Family Reunion; and for other
1- 2 purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, the Thomas Family Reunion began in 1974 in the yard
1- 4 of the late Reverend J.W.H. Thomas, Sr., who was
1- 5 instrumental in getting the reunion started, as he strongly
1- 6 encouraged his family all to get to know their relatives,
1- 7 and he worked gently but steadily toward that goal until his
1- 8 passing in 1975; and
1- 9 WHEREAS, the reunion has grown since 1974 into a much larger
1-10 event, and the organizers were obliged to locate larger
1-11 facilities to accommodate the large crowd of Thomases at
1-12 what has been called the largest family reunion in the
1-13 world; and
1-14 WHEREAS, the family's roots began in Screven County and now
1-15 consists of several generations, and the sorrow of every
1-16 passing is tempered by the joy of new births in the ongoing
1-17 plan the Master has devised for us; and
1-18 WHEREAS, those who complain so loudly and publicly about the
1-19 decline of the American family could take a lesson from the
1-20 Thomas family, and we can all take heart that this fine
1-21 institution is alive and well and thriving, as the Thomas
1-22 family so finely exemplifies.
1-23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-24 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the
1-25 Thomas Family Reunion and wish them well in the future.
1-26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
1-27 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
1-28 appropriate copy of this resolution to the Thomas Family.
