                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Recognizng the Concerned Black Citizens Coalition of Clayton 
  1- 2  County upon the occasion of the Fourteenth Annual 
  1- 3  Celebration of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., national 
  1- 4  holiday; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., dedicated his life in 
  1- 6  service to mankind; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, Dr. King's accomplishments on behalf of civil and 
  1- 8  human rights were among the most significant of the 20th 
  1- 9  century; and 
 
  1-10  WHEREAS, his tireless and persistent struggle for freedom 
  1-11  for all American citizens led to the enactment of the 
  1-12  landmark Civil Rights Act, which changed American society 
  1-13  forever; and 
 
  1-14  WHEREAS, the ultimate lesson of Dr. King's life is the 
  1-15  unveiling of the universal truth that each individual life 
  1-16  has meaning and merit regardless of race, religion, creed, 
  1-17  gender, or station in life; and 
 
  1-18  WHEREAS, the Clayton County Branch of the NAACP under the 
  1-19  leadership of Reverend Joseph Wheeler and the Concerned 
  1-20  Black Citizens Coalition of Clayton County, ably led by Ms. 
  1-21  Gail Davenport, are wholly committed to Dr. King's legacy 
  1-22  and to the principles of peace and nonviolence; and 
 
  1-23  WHEREAS, Ms. Davenport, who works tirelessly to ensure the 
  1-24  success of this annual observance exemplifies the commitment 
  1-25  of the entire membership of the coalition to Dr. King's 
  1-26  memory and reflects a profound dedication to fostering 
  1-27  tolerance and understanding within Clayton County and the 
  1-28  entire State of Georgia. 
 
  1-29  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-30  REPRESENTATIVES that this body honors Dr. Martin Luther 
  1-31  King, Jr., on the occasion of the 1999 commemoration of his 
  1-32  birth and accords special recognition to the Martin Luther 
  1-33  King, Jr. holiday observance sponsored by the Concerned 
  1-34  Black Citizens Coalition of Clayton County.

  2- 1  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 2  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
