A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Expressing sympathy at the passing of the Honorable Preston
1- 2 B. Edwards, Jr.; and for other purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, during his lifetime, the Honorable Preston B.
1- 4 Edwards, Jr., was deeply involved with his community and
1- 5 with its residents; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, as a result of his involvement with and commitment
1- 7 to the City of Port Wentworth, Georgia, the Honorable
1- 8 Preston B. Edwards, Jr., served as City Clerk, City
1- 9 Treasurer, Clerk of Council, Registrar, Councilmember,
1-10 Chatham County Commissioner, and Mayor totaling more than 25
1-11 years, where he distinguished himself and brought credit to
1-12 his family and community; and
1-13 WHEREAS, the contributions and commitment of this dedicated
1-14 public servant to the citizens of the City of Port
1-15 Wentworth, Chatham County, and this state earned him the
1-16 highest respect and admiration of his many colleagues and
1-17 friends; and
1-18 WHEREAS, the Honorable Preston B. Edwards, Jr., is survived
1-19 by his widow, Mrs. Lorene Edwards; his son, Preston Brooks
1-20 Edwards III; his daughter, Mrs. Cheryl Brewer; and stepson,
1-21 Mr. John McDowell.
1-22 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-23 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express to the
1-24 family and friends of the Honorable Preston B. Edwards, Jr.,
1-25 their deepest sympathy upon the occasion of his passing.
1-26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
1-27 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit
1-28 appropriate copies of this resolution to Mrs. Lorene
1-29 Edwards, Mr. Preston Brooks Edwards III, Mrs. Cheryl Brewer,
1-30 and Mr. John McDowell.
