                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending Cynthia A. Burnett, Douglas County School 
  1- 2  System's 2000 Teacher of the Year; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, Cynthia A. Burnett is recognized throughout Douglas 
  1- 4  County as an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and 
  1- 5  skilled teacher who inspires students of all backgrounds and 
  1- 6  abilities to learn; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, she has known her vocation since she was eight 
  1- 8  years old, and she followed that calling through a long 
  1- 9  journey which reached fruition when she became a classroom 
  1-10  teacher at age 37 following completion of her bachelor's 
  1-11  degree in Early Childhood Education at Mercer University, 
  1-12  and she has since earned a master's degree in the same field 
  1-13  from the State University of West Georgia; and 
 
  1-14  WHEREAS, she has served with honor and distinction as a 
  1-15  professional educator in the Douglas County School System 
  1-16  since 1993 and is a teacher at Bright Star Elementary School 
  1-17  where she has earned the respect and admiration of students, 
  1-18  parents, and colleagues through her active and useful role 
  1-19  in the school and community; and 
 
  1-20  WHEREAS, she believes teaching is primarily a matter of love 
  1-21  and commitment which extends beyond mere transmission of 
  1-22  information or skills, and she lives out her belief by 
  1-23  focusing on her students, the curriculum for which she is 
  1-24  responsible, and the learning environment of her classroom; 
  1-25  and 
 
  1-26  WHEREAS, remembering her own childhood's excitement in 
  1-27  learning, she imparts that enthusiasm to her students 
  1-28  through opportunities to move around, think out loud, and 
  1-29  act as peer tutors, all while she guides, coaches, and 
  1-30  protects them, and by utilizing such innovative teaching 
  1-31  methods as "Publishing with Pizazz," "Super Scientists' 
  1-32  Club," and "Tuesday Nights Together"; and, as a result of 
  1-33  her efforts, parents of her students routinely remark that 
  1-34  their children want to attend school even when they are 
  1-35  sick; and

  2- 1  WHEREAS, for her superb efforts, accomplishments, and 
  2- 2  contributions to her profession and community, Cynthia A. 
  2- 3  Burnett has been named Douglas County School System's 2000 
  2- 4  Teacher of the Year. 
 
  2- 5  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  2- 6  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend 
  2- 7  Cynthia A. Burnett for her outstanding  achievements and 
  2- 8  contributions to the welfare of this state. 
 
  2- 9  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2-10  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
