                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Recognizing the month of May, 2000, as "Motorcycle Awareness 
  1- 2  and You Month" in Georgia; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, motorcycle riding has become a popular form of 
  1- 4  recreation and transportation for thousands of people across 
  1- 5  the state and nation; and 
 
  1- 6  WHEREAS, the safety problems created by motorcycle riding 
  1- 7  should be of great concern to motorcyclists as well as to 
  1- 8  all other motor vehicle operators; and 
 
  1- 9  WHEREAS, it is especially important that the citizens of our 
  1-10  state be aware of motorcycles on the streets and highways 
  1-11  and recognize the importance of motorcycle safety; and 
 
  1-12  WHEREAS, all motorcycle organizations, clubs, dealerships, 
  1-13  groups, and highway safety officials in our state should 
  1-14  join with the Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program and the 
  1-15  American Bikers Active Toward Education (ABATE) of Georgia, 
  1-16  Inc., in actively promoting safe operation, increased rider 
  1-17  training, improved licensing efforts, and motorist 
  1-18  awareness; and 
 
  1-19  WHEREAS, during the month of May, 2000, all highway users 
  1-20  should unite in the safe sharing of roadways throughout the 
  1-21  State of Georgia; and 
 
  1-22  WHEREAS, on May 7, 2000, the ABATE of Georgia, Inc., will 
  1-23  sponsor a motorcycle show and swap meet at the Lakewood 
  1-24  Fairgrounds to promote May as "Motorcycle Awareness and You 
  1-25  Month." 
 
  1-26  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-27  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize the 
  1-28  month of May, 2000, as "Motorcycle Awareness and You Month" 
  1-29  in Georgia and urge all motor vehicle operators to join in 
  1-30  this effort to keep our highways safe. 
 
  1-31  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-32  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  1-33  appropriate copy of this resolution to the ABATE of Georgia, 
  1-34  Inc.
