A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending the Dougherty Comprehensive High School football
1- 2 team and inviting the team and coaches to appear before the
1- 3 House of Representatives; and for other purposes.
1- 4 WHEREAS, 1998 was the "Year of the Trojan" in southwest
1- 5 Georgia; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, the Dougherty Comprehensive High School Trojans
1- 7 capped a brilliant season by winning its first state
1- 8 championship on December 19, 1998; and
1- 9 WHEREAS, the Trojans' title run, capped by a 27-7 rout of
1-10 Peach County in Fort Valley was selected by The Albany
1-11 Herald as Southwest Georgia's top sports story of the year;
1-12 and
1-13 WHEREAS, the entire community rejoiced in the wake of the
1-14 first state championship won by a Dougherty County school
1-15 system football team since 1959; and
1-16 WHEREAS, in its dominating march to the state championship,
1-17 Dougherty Comprehensive High School posted a 13-2 record,
1-18 including playoff wins against Greenbrier, Hardaway, Marist,
1-19 and Cairo; and
1-20 WHEREAS, the Trojans thrashed No. 1 Marist High School 45-28
1-21 in Hugh Mills Stadium two weeks before claiming the Class
1-22 AAA crown; and
1-23 WHEREAS, although many prognosticators doubted the Trojans
1-24 all season, Coach John Reynolds' squad served notice it was
1-25 a threat to win it all in its second game against Tift
1-26 County when they hammered the 1997 Class AAAA runner-up
1-27 29-8; and
1-28 WHEREAS, the Trojans rushed for an average of 203.0 yards
1-29 per game and passed for an average of 161.9 yards per game;
1-30 and
1-31 WHEREAS, with a remarkably balanced offense complementing
1-32 its typically hard-hitting defense, Coach Reynolds' club
1-33 proved itself one of the best football teams in the history
1-34 of Dougherty County.

2- 1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2- 2 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate
2- 3 the Dougherty County Comprehensive High School Trojans
2- 4 football team, the 1998 Georgia Class AAA state champions,
2- 5 and extend heartiest best wishes for continued success on
2- 6 and off the field.
2- 7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Coach John Reynolds, the
2- 8 assistant coaches, and team members are invited to appear
2- 9 before the House of Representatives at a date and time to be
2-10 determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
2-11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2-12 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2-13 appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach John Reynolds.
