A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Congratulating the Putnam County High School Future Farmers
1- 2 of America dairy judging team and inviting them to appear
1- 3 before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.
1- 4 WHEREAS, the Putnam County High School Future Farmers of
1- 5 America dairy judging team won the national championship for
1- 6 1999, competing against teams from 45 states; and
1- 7 WHEREAS, the team amassed a record score of 2,286 points out
1- 8 of a possible score of 2,850 points in an intensive two-day
1- 9 competition; and
1-10 WHEREAS, the 1999 team was the ninth team from Putnam County
1-11 to win the Georgia state championship in dairy judging, but
1-12 the first to win nationally; and
1-13 WHEREAS, a dairy judging competition includes seven parts:
1-14 evaluating six classes of four cows each; giving oral
1-15 reasons for the ratings assigned to the 24 cows; linear
1-16 typing; a group test; individual tests; scenarios for
1-17 matching hypothetical cows with hypothetical bulls; and
1-18 pedigree determination; and
1-19 WHEREAS, this remarkable team practiced twice weekly, for
1-20 about three hours each time, showing an outstanding
1-21 dedication and ability to maintain their focus; and
1-22 WHEREAS, the members of this outstanding team are Tonya
1-23 Boswell, Brittany Neff, Brandi Scheller, and Christie
1-24 Sheppard; and
1-25 WHEREAS, their coach, agriculture teacher Dr. Dennis
1-26 Sheppard, encouraged the young women to sharpen their skills
1-27 and do their best; and
1-28 WHEREAS, the skills and traits developed in preparing for
1-29 this competition -- analysis, persistence, patience, poise
1-30 in speaking -- will help ensure a bright future for these
1-31 remarkable young women.
1-32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-33 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate
1-34 the Putnam County High School Future Farmers of America
1-35 dairy judging team, National Champions, and invite them to

2- 1 appear before the House of Representatives on a day and time
2- 2 to be designated by the Speaker of the House.
2- 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2- 4 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2- 5 appropriate copy of this resolution to Putnam County High
2- 6 School.
