A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Article 1 of Chapter 12 of Title 15 of the Official
1- 2 Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions
1- 3 regarding juries, so as to excuse certain parents and
1- 4 guardians from service as jurors; to repeal conflicting
1- 5 laws; and for other purposes.
1- 6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
1- 7 SECTION 1.
1- 8 Article 1 of Chapter 12 of Title 15 of the Official Code of
1- 9 Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions regarding
1-10 juries, is amended by adding immediately following Code
1-11 Section 15-12-1 a new Code Section 15-12-1.1 to read as
1-12 follows:
1-13 "15-12-1.1.
1-14 (a) Any person who is summoned to serve as a juror in any
1-15 court of this state and who is the parent or legal
1-16 guardian of a home-schooled child not enrolled in any
1-17 public or private elementary or secondary school shall be
1-18 excused from such service upon presentation of a written
1-19 and signed verification from such person that such person
1-20 is the principal instructor of such child and that an
1-21 alternate instructor is not available.
1-22 (b) Any person who is summoned to serve as a juror in any
1-23 court of this state and who is the parent or legal
1-24 guardian of a child under six years of age not enrolled in
1-25 any public or private pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, or
1-26 elementary or secondary school shall be excused from such
1-27 service upon presentation of a written and signed
1-28 verification from such person that such person is the
1-29 principal custodian of such child between the hours of
1-30 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. and that an alternate custodian is
1-31 not available."

2- 2 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
2- 3 repealed.
