A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Urging Congress to give priority to strengthening the Social
1- 2 Security system; and for other purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Social Security provides American workers and their
1- 4 families with universal, contributory, wage-related,
1- 5 inflation-adjusted benefits in the event of the retirement,
1- 6 disability, or death of a wage earner; and
1- 7 WHEREAS, Congressional leaders and the President are seeking
1- 8 to engage the American people in a dialogue about Social
1- 9 Security that could lead toward the enactment of bipartisan
1-10 legislation ensuring Social Security's long-term solvency.
1-11 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
1-12 GEORGIA that the members of this body urge Congress to give
1-13 priority to reforming Social Security to ensure its
1-14 financial viability.
