A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Part 1 of Article 4 of Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the
1- 2 Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general
1- 3 provisions regarding selection and qualification of
1- 4 candidates, so as to authorize the extension of certain time
1- 5 periods for required filings by candidates in the event of a
1- 6 declared state of emergency or disaster; to provide an
1- 7 effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
1- 8 purposes.
1- 9 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
1-10 SECTION 1.
1-11 Part 1 of Article 4 of Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the Official
1-12 Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions
1-13 regarding selection and qualification of candidates, is
1-14 amended by adding a new Code section immediately following
1-15 Code Section 21-2-132, to be designated Code Section
1-16 21-2-132.1, to read as follows:
1-17 "21-2-132.1.
1-18 In the event a state of emergency or disaster is declared
1-19 by the Governor, the time periods otherwise specified
1-20 under Code Section 21-2-132 for filing a notice of
1-21 candidacy and paying the prescribed qualifying fees,
1-22 filing a pauper's affidavit and qualifying petition, and
1-23 filing nomination petitions and affidavits may be extended
1-24 by the Secretary of State upon the cessation of such state
1-25 of emergency or disaster for such limited time period as
1-26 may be necessary to accommodate such filings with as
1-27 minimal disruption as possible to the election schedule."
1-28 SECTION 2.
1-29 This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the
1-30 Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.

2- 2 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
2- 3 repealed.
