                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Article 1 of Chapter 4 of Title 27 of the Official 
  1- 2  Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions 
  1- 3  relative to fish, so as to provide that certain restrictions 
  1- 4  on cast nets shall be applicable to cast nets having a 
  1- 5  radius of seven feet or less and certain restrictions shall 
  1- 6  apply to larger cast nets; to repeal conflicting laws; and 
  1- 7  for other purposes. 
 
  1- 8       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 9                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1-10  Article 1 of Chapter 4 of Title 27 of the Official Code of 
  1-11  Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions relative 
  1-12  to fish, is amended by striking in its entirety Code Section 
  1-13  27-4-13, relating to the size and construction requirements 
  1-14  of cast nets, and inserting in lieu thereof the following: 
 
  1-15    "27-4-13. 
 
  1-16    (a) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (b) of this 
  1-17    Code section, all All cast nets having a radius of seven 
  1-18    feet or less used in the waters of the state shall be 
  1-19    constructed of a uniform mesh size and a uniform mesh 
  1-20    material from the thimble, also known as the horn, of the 
  1-21    net to the lead line. The lead line shall consist of a 
  1-22    line to which is attached a minimum of three-fourths 
  1-23    pounds of lead per radius foot of the net. Modifications 
  1-24    of elements other than the mesh size, mesh material, and 
  1-25    lead weight are permitted. 
 
  1-26    (b) All cast nets having a radius greater than seven feet 
  1-27    used for taking shrimp in the waters of the state shall be 
  1-28    constructed of a uniform mesh size and a uniform mesh 
  1-29    material from the thimble, also known as the horn, of the 
  1-30    net to the lead line. The brail or tuck lines shall be of 
  1-31    uniform diameter and constructed of the same material as 
  1-32    the mesh. The lead line shall consist of a round line to 
  1-33    which is attached a minimum of three-quarters of a pound 
  1-34    of lead per radius foot of the net. No materials other

  2- 1    than those expressly set forth in this subsection shall be 
  2- 2    permitted. 
 
  2- 3    (c) It shall be unlawful to use a cast net not in 
  2- 4    conformity with the provisions of this Code section. It 
  2- 5    shall be unlawful to possess in a vessel a cast net not in 
  2- 6    conformity with the provisions of either subsection (a) or 
  2- 7    subsection (b) of this Code section." 
 
  2- 8                           SECTION 2. 
 
  2- 9  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
