                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Part 14 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of 
  1- 2  the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to certain 
  1- 3  educational programs, so as to require the State Board of 
  1- 4  Education to develop a rape prevention and personal safety 
  1- 5  education program for grade 8 through grade 12; to provide 
  1- 6  that local boards of education may implement such program; 
  1- 7  to require the state board to make information regarding 
  1- 8  such program available to the Board of Regents of the 
  1- 9  University System of Georgia; to provide for related 
  1-10  matters; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting 
  1-11  laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1-12       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1-13                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1-14  Part 14 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the 
  1-15  Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to certain 
  1-16  educational programs, is amended by inserting at the end 
  1-17  thereof the following: 
 
  1-18    "20-2-314. 
 
  1-19    The State Board of Education shall develop, with input 
  1-20    from appropriate experts and rape crisis centers and by 
  1-21    the start of the 2000-2001 school year, a rape prevention 
  1-22    and personal safety education program for grade 8 through 
  1-23    grade 12 which is consistent with the core curriculum 
  1-24    provided for in Code Section 20-2-140.  Local boards may 
  1-25    implement such a program at any time and for any grade 
  1-26    level it finds appropriate, and the state board shall 
  1-27    encourage the implementation of such program.  In 
  1-28    addition, the state board shall make information regarding 
  1-29    such program available to the Board of Regents of the 
  1-30    University System of Georgia." 
 
  1-31                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-32  This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2000.

  2- 2  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
