                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend an Act creating a board of elections and 
  1- 2  registration for Cherokee County, approved April 4, 1991 
  1- 3  (Ga. L. 1991, p. 3830), so as to implement a system of 
  1- 4  staggered terms of office for the members of the board; to 
  1- 5  provide for the expiration of terms of certain members; to 
  1- 6  repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 7       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 8                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 9  An Act creating a board of elections and registration for 
  1-10  Cherokee County, approved April 4, 1991 (Ga. L. 1991, p. 
  1-11  3830), is amended by striking subsection (c) of Section 2 
  1-12  and inserting in its place a new subsection (c) to read as 
  1-13  follows: 
 
  1-14      "(c)(1) The two party appointed members of the board who 
  1-15      are serving as such on January 1, 1999, specifically 
  1-16      Thomas Freeman and Cindy Allen-Castello and any person 
  1-17      selected to fill a vacancy in any such office whose term 
  1-18      of office would normally expire on December 31, 2002, 
  1-19      shall continue to serve as such members for terms of 
  1-20      office which expire December 31, 2000, and upon the 
  1-21      appointment and qualification of their respective 
  1-22      successors. 
 
  1-23      (2) The remaining two party appointed members of the 
  1-24      board and the fifth member who are serving as such on 
  1-25      January 1, 1999, and any person selected to fill a 
  1-26      vacancy in any such office shall continue to serve as 
  1-27      such members for terms of office which expire on 
  1-28      December 31, 2002, and upon the appointment and 
  1-29      qualification of their respective successors.  Those and 
  1-30      all future successors to members of the board whose 
  1-31      terms of office are to expire shall be appointed as 
  1-32      provided in paragraphs (1) and (2) of subsection (b) of 
  1-33      this section, shall take office the first day of January 
  1-34      immediately following that appointment, and shall serve

  2- 1      for terms of office of four years.  Members of the board 
  2- 2      shall serve for the terms of office specified therefor 
  2- 3      in this subsection and until their respective successors 
  2- 4      are appointed and qualified." 
 
  2- 5                           SECTION 2. 
 
  2- 6  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
