                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Code Section 19-3-30 of the Official Code of 
  1- 2  Georgia Annotated, relating to issuance, return, and 
  1- 3  recording of marriage licenses, so as to provide that mayors 
  1- 4  of municipalities may perform marriage ceremonies; to repeal 
  1- 5  conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 6       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 7                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 8  Code Section 19-3-30 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1- 9  Annotated, relating to issuance, return, and recording of 
  1-10  marriage licenses, is amended by striking subsection (c) of 
  1-11  said Code section and inserting in its place the following: 
 
  1-12    "(c) The license shall be directed to any judge, including 
  1-13    judges of state and federal courts of record in this 
  1-14    state, mayor of a municipality, city recorder, magistrate, 
  1-15    minister, or other person of any religious society or sect 
  1-16    authorized by the rules of such society to perform the 
  1-17    marriage ceremony; such license shall authorize the 
  1-18    marriage of the persons therein named and require the 
  1-19    judge, mayor, city recorder, magistrate, minister, or 
  1-20    other authorized person to return the license to the judge 
  1-21    of the probate court with the certificate thereon as to 
  1-22    the fact and date of marriage within 30 days after the 
  1-23    date of the marriage. The license with the return thereon 
  1-24    shall be recorded by the judge in a book kept by such 
  1-25    judge for that purpose." 
 
  1-26                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-27  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
