                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend an Act providing for the compensation of certain 
  1- 2  public officials and judicial officers in Chatham County, 
  1- 3  approved March 26, 1986 (Ga. L. 1986, p. 4797), so as to 
  1- 4  change the compensation of the chairperson and members of 
  1- 5  the Board of Commissioners of Chatham County; to provide for 
  1- 6  an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other 
  1- 7  purposes. 
 
  1- 8       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 9                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1-10  An Act providing for the compensation of certain public 
  1-11  officials and judicial officers in Chatham County, approved 
  1-12  March 26, 1986 (Ga. L. 1986, p. 4797), is amended by 
  1-13  striking in its entirety Section 2 and inserting in lieu 
  1-14  thereof a new Section 2 to read as follows: 
 
 
 
  1-15    Each official of Chatham County listed below shall receive 
  1-16    a salary fixed by the governing authority of such county, 
  1-17    provided that said salary for each officer shall not 
  1-18    exceed the salary set forth as follows: 
 
  1-19      Chairperson of the board of 
  1-20      commissioners.......................$42,000.00 per annum 
 
  1-21      Members of the board of 
  1-22      commissioners....................... 14,500.00 per annum 
 
  1-23    At any time the governing authority of Chatham County 
  1-24    grants a cost-of-living increase to employees of Chatham 
  1-25    County, the salaries of the chairperson and members of the 
  1-26    board of commissioners shall be increased by one-half of 
  1-27    the percentage increase granted to such county employees." 
 
  1-28                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-29  This Act shall become effective on January 1, 2001.

  2- 2  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
