                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending all Vietnam Era/Vietnam Veterans and their 
  1- 2  families; to recognize May 5-7, 2000, as the 25th Observance 
  1- 3  of the ending of the Vietnam War; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 4  WHEREAS, America's Vietnam War was fought in Southeast Asia 
  1- 5  from August 5, 1964, until May 7, 1975, and must include the 
  1- 6  Advisory Role from July 1, 1958, until August 4, 1964; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, Georgia has always provided its best and brightest 
  1- 8  sons and daughters to serve in this country's wars and 
  1- 9  during peace time in the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, 
  1-10  Coast Guard, Reserves, and National Guard; and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, Georgia contributed more than 228,000 of its men 
  1-12  and women to serve during the Vietnam War and thus had 1,584 
  1-13  Georgians killed in action, 8,534 wounded in action, 21 who 
  1-14  were held as prisoners of war, 39 who are still unaccounted 
  1-15  for, and 11 whose remains have been repatriated; and 
 
  1-16  WHEREAS, Georgia dedicated its three figure statue to honor 
  1-17  its Vietnam Veterans on November 11, 1988, followed by the 
  1-18  dedication of the Georgia Vietnam Wall on October 30, 1997, 
  1-19  listing 1,584 Georgians who died in that war; and 
 
  1-20  WHEREAS, Georgians understand that "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE" and 
  1-21  that all generations have offered its young to serve "in 
  1-22  Harm's Way" thus embracing John 15:13; and all of this 
  1-23  state's Vietnam Era/Vietnam Veterans and their family 
  1-24  members are to be highly commended for their service, 
  1-25  sacrifice, and devotion to duty during a most trying time in 
  1-26  America's history; and 
 
  1-27  WHEREAS, the Georgia Veterans Leadership Program, Inc., 
  1-28  helped to coordinate the state memorials located at the Pete 
  1-29  Wheeler Georgia War Veterans Memorial Plaza and a May 5-7, 
  1-30  2000, 25th Observance of  the ending of the Vietnam War, and 
  1-31  it will host state-wide participation in honoring this 
  1-32  segment of Georgia's veterans. 
 
  1-33  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF 
  1-34  GEORGIA  that the members of this body highly commend all 
  1-35  Vietnam Era/Vietnam Veterans and their families for their

  2- 1  outstanding service to Georgia, America, Southeast Asia, and 
  2- 2  the world. 
 
  2- 3  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body go on 
  2- 4  record as recognizing that this generation of warriors did 
  2- 5  not lose in Vietnam, they simply were not allowed to win, 
  2- 6  and we heartily applaud their just and honorable duty. 
 
  2- 7  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we commend and applaud the 
  2- 8  upcoming May 5-7, 2000, 25th Observance of the ending of the 
  2- 9  Vietnam War, which will further honor this generation and
