A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Recognizing the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Authority and
1- 2 inviting the members of the authority to appear before the
1- 3 House of Representatives; and for other purposes.
1- 4 WHEREAS, in Macon, Georgia, on April 23-24, 1999, the
1- 5 Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Authority will celebrate the
1- 6 grand opening of a marvelous facility designed to honor
1- 7 Georgia sports figures; and
1- 8 WHEREAS, the site for this enormous facility is adjacent to
1- 9 the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, and the architectural design
1-10 resembles the old traditional baseball park; and
1-11 WHEREAS, with a total area of 43,000 square feet,
1-12 considerable space is dedicated to honor Georgia sports
1-13 celebrities, Georgia high school, college, and professional
1-14 teams in every major sport, and Atlanta's international fame
1-15 as the host city for the 1996 Olympic Summer Games; and
1-16 WHEREAS, artifacts and memorabilia have been collected for
1-17 displays and narratives of famous sports records and events,
1-18 and a state of the art theater and interactive games have
1-19 been developed to provide a stimulating and educational
1-20 experience for the public regardless of age; and
1-21 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the completion of
1-22 this significant sports showcase that offers valuable
1-23 historical, educational, and recreational information to
1-24 visitors and Georgians alike.
1-25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-26 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize the
1-27 Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Authority and its unique
1-28 facility to celebrate Georgia sports figures and their
1-29 achievements and invite the members of the Authority to
1-30 appear before the House of Representatives on a date and
1-31 time determined by the Speaker.
1-32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
1-33 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
1-34 appropriate copy of this resolution to Alice Knierim,
1-35 Executive Director of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame
1-36 Authority.
