                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending and recognizing the Georgia Association of Black 
  1- 2  State Universities; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, the Georgia Association of Black State Universities 
  1- 4  (GABSU) is a consortium of the national alumni associations 
  1- 5  of Albany State, Fort Valley State, and Savannah State 
  1- 6  Universities; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, the GABSU is committed to improving the quality of 
  1- 8  Georgia's public universities; and 
 
  1- 9  WHEREAS, the purpose of the GABSU is to address the unique 
  1-10  concerns of Georgia's black public universities, as well as 
  1-11  advance their missions, thereby improving the quality of 
  1-12  higher education in Georgia and the nation; and 
 
  1-13  WHEREAS, the GABSU represents some 50,000 alumni nationwide 
  1-14  and more than 15,000 in the State of Georgia; and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, the GABSU Legislative Conference is held annually 
  1-16  in an effort to bring a wide range of alumni and college 
  1-17  officials together with state elected and appointed 
  1-18  officials to plan for and implement ways of increasing 
  1-19  financial and programmatic support for the state's public 
  1-20  black universities; and 
 
  1-21  WHEREAS, the GABSU will continue its efforts to garner 
  1-22  support from the government and the private sector for 
  1-23  Georgia's public black universities. 
 
  1-24  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-25  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend and 
  1-26  recognize the Georgia Association of Black State 
  1-27  Universities for its outstanding and dedicated work. 
 
  1-28  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-29  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  1-30  appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia 
  1-31  Association of Black State Universities.
