                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending the sisters of the Alpha Theta Zeta Chapter of 
  1- 2  Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and inviting them to appear 
  1- 3  before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 4  WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., was founded on 
  1- 5  January 16, 1920, on the campus of Howard University, in 
  1- 6  Washington, D.C., as the sister organization to Phi Beta 
  1- 7  Sigma Fraternity; and 
 
  1- 8  WHEREAS, the sorority's charter articulated its ambitions 
  1- 9  and purposes: encouraging the highest standards of 
  1-10  scholarship through scientific, literary, cultural, and 
  1-11  educational programs; promoting service projects on college 
  1-12  campuses and in the community; fostering sisterhood; and 
  1-13  exemplifying the ideals of Finer Womanhood; and 
 
  1-14  WHEREAS, the sorority's ideals are reflected in national 
  1-15  programs for which its members and auxiliary groups provide 
  1-16  countless hours of dedicated voluntary service to staff 
  1-17  community outreach programs, fund scholarships, support 
  1-18  organized charities, and promote legislation for positive 
  1-19  social change; and 
 
  1-20  WHEREAS, Alpha Theta Zeta Chapter, located in Savannah, is a 
  1-21  unique team of women committed to furthering, enhancing, and 
  1-22  proclaiming a valuable historical legacy founded on 
  1-23  magnificent ideals and principles; and 
 
  1-24  WHEREAS, chapter projects and activities are designed to 
  1-25  implement the sorority's national seven point plan of 
  1-26  action: education, community volunteerism, drug and 
  1-27  substance abuse prevention, health and wellness awareness, 
  1-28  economic development, governmental affairs, and chapter 
  1-29  management; and 
 
  1-30  WHEREAS, Alpha Theta Zeta Chapter is providing crucial 
  1-31  leadership in positioning Zeta Phi Beta for preeminence in 
  1-32  the twenty-first century, the beginning of the new 
  1-33  millennium. 
 
  1-34  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-35  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the 
  1-36  sisters of Alpha Theta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta

  2- 1  Sorority, Inc., for their excellent attitude of civic 
  2- 2  responsibility and their many valuable contributions to 
  2- 3  their community, state, and nation and invite them to appear 
  2- 4  before the House of Representatives at a date and time to be 
  2- 5  designated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives. 
 
  2- 6  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 7  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  2- 8  appropriate copy of this resolution to the Alpha Theta Zeta
