A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Recognizing and commending Honorable Henry L. Reaves; and
1- 2 for other purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Honorable Henry L. Reaves, the distinguished
1- 4 Representative from the 178th District and the chairman of
1- 5 the Committee on Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, has
1- 6 announced his intention to retire as a member of the House
1- 7 of Representatives; and
1- 8 WHEREAS, Honorable Henry L. Reaves came to Georgia from his
1- 9 native Florida to pursue a career as a cattle farmer; and
1-10 WHEREAS, he served for many years as a public affairs
1-11 representative with Southern Railway, and, in 1963, began a
1-12 long career of service as a member of the House of
1-13 Representatives; and
1-14 WHEREAS, he is a strong, honorable, and sincere man of
1-15 impeccable character who is committed to doing the people's
1-16 business, who doesn't hesitate to express his opinion, who
1-17 has never failed to provide valuable leadership and guidance
1-18 to the members of the General Assembly, and who has made
1-19 numerous noteworthy contributions to agriculture and state
1-20 government; and
1-21 WHEREAS, he has served with great ability as chairman of the
1-22 Committee on Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, as a member
1-23 of the Committee on Appropriations, as chairman of the
1-24 Agricultural Appropriations Subcommittee, and as a member of
1-25 the Committee on Natural Resources and Environment; and
1-26 WHEREAS, all state agricultural facilities built during the
1-27 last 30 years have been initiated or heavily influenced by
1-28 Honorable Henry L. Reaves and he has an enviable record of
1-29 initiating and influencing legislation of significance to
1-30 Georgia farmers; and
1-31 WHEREAS, he has been recognized with Outstanding Service
1-32 Awards by 4-H and FFA for his concern for the young people
1-33 of this state; has received awards for outstanding service
1-34 from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary
1-35 Medicine, the National Vocational Ag Teachers Association,
1-36 and the Georgia Pork Producers; was inducted into the

2- 1 Georgia Cattlemen's Association Hall of Fame in 1987; and
2- 2 received the Friend of the Farmer Award in 1992 from the
2- 3 Georgia Farm Bureau Federation; and
2- 4 WHEREAS, in recognition of his contributions to agriculture,
2- 5 education, and research and in honor of his dedication to
2- 6 assisting Georgia's family farmers, he was recently inducted
2- 7 into the Georgia Agriculture Hall of Fame; and
2- 8 WHEREAS, the members of the House of Representatives, the
2- 9 men and women who produce the food and fiber which is the
2-10 bedrock of Georgia's economy, and the young people of this
2-11 state could have no better friend or leader than Honorable
2-12 Henry L. Reaves.
2-13 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2-14 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and
2-15 commend Honorable Henry L. Reaves for his 38 years as a
2-16 distinguished, dedicated, and effective member of the House
2-17 of Representatives and for his steadfast commitment to the
2-18 people of Georgia and to agriculture, agricultural
2-19 education, farm families, and the natural resources of this
2-20 state.
2-21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2-22 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2-23 appropriate copy of this resolution to Honorable Henry L.
2-24 Reaves.
