A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending the University System of Georgia Outstanding
1- 2 Scholars on Academic Recognition Day; and for other
1- 3 purposes.
1- 4 WHEREAS, Georgia's educational system is dedicated to the
1- 5 goal of providing a quality education to all and fostering
1- 6 the realization of each person's fullest potential; and
1- 7 WHEREAS, the 34 institutions of the University System of
1- 8 Georgia are valuable resources for the people of this state,
1- 9 enhancing the intellectual, economic, social, civic, and
1-10 cultural well-being of the communities in which they are
1-11 located and the entire state; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Academic Recognition Day was begun in 1987 as a
1-13 celebration of individual academic achievement and
1-14 recognition of those students who exemplify that which is
1-15 best about the University System of Georgia and its
1-16 institutions, inspired and dedicated teaching and excellence
1-17 in learning; and
1-18 WHEREAS, the following scholars from the 34 institutions of
1-19 the University System of Georgia represent excellence in
1-20 academic achievement and personal development:

2-22 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2-23 REPRESENTATIVES that the University System of Georgia
2-24 Outstanding Scholars are commended for their achievements in
2-25 education and upon their selection as representatives of
2-26 their institutions on the occasion of Academic Recognition
2-27 Day for 2000.
2-28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2-29 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit
2-30 appropriate copies of this resolution to Honorable Kenneth
2-31 W. Cannestra, Chairman, Board of Regents of the University
2-32 System of Georgia, and to Honorable Stephen R. Portch,
2-33 Chancellor, University System of Georgia.
