A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending and congratulating Floyd Jolley; and for other
1- 2 purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Floyd Jolley has been honored as the Henry County
1- 4 Teacher of the Year for 1998; and
1- 5 WHEREAS, he graduated from Weber State University and earned
1- 6 his master's degree in education from West Georgia College;
1- 7 and
1- 8 WHEREAS, he began his distinguished career as an educator in
1- 9 Henry County more than eight years ago; and
1-10 WHEREAS, honored as Elementary Science Teacher of the Year
1-11 by two different schools, he has given presentations at the
1-12 National Science Teachers Association Conference and the
1-13 Summer Geography Institute; and
1-14 WHEREAS, this exemplary teacher approaches each school day
1-15 with a sense of joy and excitement, knowing that wonderful
1-16 things can happen when teachers and students work together
1-17 to learn; and
1-18 WHEREAS, his colleagues at Hickory Flat Elementary School,
1-19 where he teaches fifth grade, respect and admire Floyd
1-20 Jolley's dedication and enthusiasm; and
1-21 WHEREAS, he is active in professional organizations,
1-22 including the Professional Association of Georgia Educators,
1-23 National Science Teachers Association, Georgia Science
1-24 Teachers Association, Henry County Science Teachers
1-25 Association, National Reading Council, Georgia Coaches
1-26 Association, and Georgia Geographic Alliance; and
1-27 WHEREAS, he is generous with his time and energy in
1-28 community projects, serving as a Sunday school teacher,
1-29 gymnastics coach, tutor, volunteer for fund-raising
1-30 activities for charitable organizations, and volunteer for
1-31 the Olympic Games, where he served on the envoy team for
1-32 Kyrgyzstan; and
1-33 WHEREAS, his statement "Teaching brings the reward of
1-34 knowing that one has touched another's life" is a reflection
1-35 of his genuine liking for his students.

2- 1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2- 2 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Floyd
2- 3 Jolley for his outstanding service to his students, his
2- 4 colleagues, and his community and congratulate him for being
2- 5 honored as Henry County Teacher of the Year for 1998.
2- 6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2- 7 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2- 8 appropriate copy of this resolution to Floyd Jolley.
