                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Recognizing and commending Hillian D. Barker; and for other 
  1- 2  purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, Hillian Barker is a dedicated leader and a highly 
  1- 4  effective advocate for organized labor and has substantially 
  1- 5  strengthened public awareness and support for retired 
  1- 6  workers and the rights of all workers; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, he began his career at the Doraville assembly plant 
  1- 8  in 1948 and has served his union in many capacities, 
  1- 9  including such leadership posts as committeeman, vice 
  1-10  president, and, for 14 years, local union president; and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, he then served UAW members in a 13 state region as 
  1-12  regional retiree representative, and, in 1994, he was 
  1-13  elected President of the Regional Retired Workers Council; 
  1-14  and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, he was appointed to the Executive Board of the 
  1-16  National Council of Senior Citizens and still serves on this 
  1-17  board; and 
 
  1-18  WHEREAS, he has been a member of many government and civil 
  1-19  committees, including the Constitutional Revision Committee 
  1-20  of Georgia and the Gwinnett County Democratic Executive 
  1-21  Committee, and has served on the Duluth City Council. 
 
  1-22  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-23  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and 
  1-24  commend Hillian D. Barker for his dedicated service to the 
  1-25  UAW and to the citizens of Georgia and convey to him their 
  1-26  appreciation and best wishes. 
 
  1-27  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-28  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
