                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending Macon Technical Institute's Information 
  1- 2  Technology Program; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, Macon Technical Institute, located in Macon, 
  1- 4  Georgia, has one of the highest pass rates for national IT 
  1- 5  certification exams in the country and has grown from 98 
  1- 6  Computer Information Systems program majors in 1996 to over 
  1- 7  850 in 2000, creating the need to expand facilities from 
  1- 8  three to 41 networked computer labs; and 
 
  1- 9  WHEREAS, Macon Technical Institute's IT program consists of 
  1-10  three major tracks including Microcomputer Specialist, 
  1-11  Networking Specialist, and E-Specialist, with 23 different 
  1-12  program options entailing 49 courses, including the first 
  1-13  e-commerce certification, diploma, and associate degree in 
  1-14  the State of Georgia; and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, in the fall of 1998, Macon Technical Institute 
  1-16  became a Microsoft Authorized Academic Training Program 
  1-17  resulting in professional certification pass rates on first 
  1-18  attempts ranging from 95 to 100 percent, as compared to the 
  1-19  national average of 17 percent on MCSE exams; and 
 
  1-20  WHEREAS, in 1998, Macon Technical Institute became the first 
  1-21  Cisco regional training academy for the State of Georgia and 
  1-22  now provides direct support to 19 local academies consisting 
  1-23  of two universities, ten technical schools, and seven high 
  1-24  schools.  Cisco has recognized Macon Technical Institute's 
  1-25  training contribution to the State of Georgia at both the 
  1-26  instructor and student level.  In addition, Macon Technical 
  1-27  Institute has consulted with over 117 systems nation wide 
  1-28  giving support as they implement IT training; and 
 
  1-29  WHEREAS, in the spring of 1999, Macon Technical Institute 
  1-30  was selected as one of six sites in the United States by 
  1-31  Microsoft Press for a national launch of their Academic 
  1-32  Learning Series for educators; and 
 
  1-33  WHEREAS, at Macon Technical Institute, the CIS majors assist 
  1-34  in installing and maintaining over 1,500 computer systems on 
  1-35  campus through student participation in internships and 
  1-36  volunteerism, and this hands-on environment training by

  2- 1  faculty supports the opportunity to perform real-life work 
  2- 2  situations contributing to the success rate of the program. 
 
  2- 3  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  2- 4  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Macon 
  2- 5  Technical Institute's Information Technology Program and 
  2- 6  congratulate the students and the school on their high 
  2- 7  achievements. 
 
  2- 8  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 9  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  2-10  appropriate copy of this resolution to Macon Technical
