                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Designating February 1, 1999, as "Kroger Day at the 
  1- 2  Capitol"; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, for years, Kroger Food Stores has been a business 
  1- 4  and community leader in Georgia and, throughout the year, 
  1- 5  Kroger stands out as a great steward of the civic and 
  1- 6  business communities; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, Kroger is committed to providing consumers with a 
  1- 8  food supply that is unsurpassed in safety and has invested 
  1- 9  in the latest food safety technology and worker training to 
  1-10  prevent microbial contamination.  Kroger's record of 
  1-11  excellence reflects the fact that safety is Kroger's number 
  1-12  one issue; and 
 
  1-13  WHEREAS, by the end of 1998, in the Atlanta metro area, 
  1-14  Kroger certified more than 1,450 associates in basic food 
  1-15  safety.  Certification includes all store management and 
  1-16  perishable department heads, plus administrative staff 
  1-17  including zone staffs; and 
 
  1-18  WHEREAS, Kroger has opened in Georgia the first meat 
  1-19  processing facility of its kind that not only houses a USDA 
  1-20  inspector but runs hundreds of safety spot checks on plant 
  1-21  equipment daily; and 
 
  1-22  WHEREAS, Kroger has created and is displaying in all Georgia 
  1-23  stores placards and brochures outlining steps consumers 
  1-24  should take to ensure basic safe food handling; and 
 
  1-25  WHEREAS, Kroger is working to educate its customers about 
  1-26  food safety through in-store brochures, mailers, Goodness 
  1-27  Magazine, and KRGR radio; and 
 
  1-28  WHEREAS, Kroger requires a time and temperature log in all 
  1-29  stores with respect to rotisserie chickens and meats to 
  1-30  ensure proper temperature control over this critical area; 
  1-31  and 
 
  1-32  WHEREAS, Kroger performs 13 separate Food Safety Reviews 
  1-33  (FSR) each year in every store. 
 
  1-34  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-35  REPRESENTATIVES that, because of the tremendous commitment

  2- 1  Kroger Food Stores has shown to protecting the health of the 
  2- 2  people of Georgia, the members of this body designate 
  2- 3  February 1, 1999, as "Kroger Day at the Capitol." 
 
  2- 4  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 5  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  2- 6  appropriate copy of this resolution to the public and the
