A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending James H. Fletcher; and for other purposes.
1- 2 WHEREAS, James H. Fletcher was born in Plains, Georgia, on
1- 3 January 3, 1928; and
1- 4 WHEREAS, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology,
1- 5 earned a BBA degree from Georgia State in 1950, and
1- 6 graduated from the Cincinnati College of Embalming in 1956;
1- 7 and
1- 8 WHEREAS, he was a diver on the Georgia Tech Swimming Team
1- 9 which won the Southeastern Conference Championship in 1949;
1-10 and
1-11 WHEREAS, he answered his country's call to defend liberty
1-12 and served two years in the United States Navy, sailing
1-13 around the world on the Aircraft Carrier "Valley Forge"; and
1-14 WHEREAS, he began his professional career as a funeral
1-15 director when he moved to Thomaston, Georgia, in 1956, and
1-16 earned the Certified Funeral Service Practitioners
1-17 designation from the Academy of Professional Funeral Service
1-18 Practice in 1992; and
1-19 WHEREAS, he has provided outstanding leadership to his
1-20 professional organization as President of the Georgia
1-21 Funeral Directors Association, and to his community as
1-22 President of the Thomaston-Upson County Chamber of Commerce,
1-23 the Thomaston Lions Club, and the Thomaston Touchdown Club,
1-24 and as Board Chairman of the Upson County Vocational and
1-25 Technical School, the Thomaston Board of Education, and
1-26 board member of the Upson County Chapter of the American Red
1-27 Cross; and
1-28 WHEREAS, active in the Boy Scouts of America since he was
1-29 eleven years old, he was an exemplary Scoutmaster of the
1-30 Molena, Georgia, troup, and served on the Executive
1-31 Committee from 1950 to 1955; he has served with distinction
1-32 as Co-Scoutmaster for Thomaston's Troop 19, as District SME
1-33 Chairman and District Chairman of the Pine Mountain
1-34 District, and is currently serving as a valuable member of
1-35 the Pine Mountain District Eagle Scout Committee, the Silver

2- 1 Beaver Selection Committee, and the Executive Committee for
2- 2 the Flint River Council; and
2- 3 WHEREAS, his many valuable contributions to scouting and his
2- 4 excellent influence on the lives of young people have been
2- 5 recognized with Scouting's Silver Beaver Award, and the
2- 6 Association of Baptist Good Shepherd Award; and
2- 7 WHEREAS, he is married to Ann Pasley and the father of three
2- 8 children, Laura Durand, James P. Fletcher, and Robert H.
2- 9 Fletcher, eight grandchilren, and one step-granddaughter.
2-10 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2-11 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend James
2-12 H. Fletcher for his leadership in his community, and his
2-13 energetic and enthusiastic participation in the lives of
2-14 young people through scouting.
2-15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2-16 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2-17 appropriate copy of this resolution to James H. Fletcher.
