                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Recognizing and honoring the Gwinnett County Police 
  1- 2  Department's DUI Task Force; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, the Gwinnett County Police Department's DUI Task 
  1- 4  Force made an astounding 1,349 DUI arrests in 1998; and 
 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, in 1996 there were 603 deaths and 10,276 injuries 
  1- 6  in a total of 11,305 DUI accidents on Georgia highways due 
  1- 7  to drunk driving, so the pursuit of drunk drivers is of 
  1- 8  paramount importance to the people of Gwinnett County and 
  1- 9  indeed to all of Georgia; and 
 
  1-10  WHEREAS, the Gwinnett DUI Task Force is continually working 
  1-11  to discover and implement new ways of combating the drunk 
  1-12  driving epidemic.  Their innovation and leadership in this 
  1-13  area has led to numerous consultations with police 
  1-14  departments across the State of Georgia; and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, the Gwinnett DUI Task Force works in the Gwinnett 
  1-16  County public schools to reduce the potential for drunk 
  1-17  driving through education and deterrence; and 
 
  1-18  WHEREAS, the members of the task force individually and 
  1-19  collectively have been commended by the Governor's Office of 
  1-20  Highway Safety, MADD, and the Georgia SafeKids Coalition; 
  1-21  and 
 
  1-22  WHEREAS, the task force won top honors from MADD for having 
  1-23  the Georgia officer of the year; and 
 
  1-24  WHEREAS, credit for these astonishing successes should go to 
  1-25  Chief Bill Dean, Assistant Chief Mike Cowart, Sergeant 
  1-26  Gerald Plumstead, and Captain Dan Bruno who, with integrity, 
  1-27  dedication, and inspiring leadership, took the task force to 
  1-28  new heights of success; and 
 
  1-29  WHEREAS, Corporal Tom Hunt and Corporal Wayne Thaxton were 
  1-30  also indispensable in creating such a strong and determined 
  1-31  task force; and 
 
  1-32  WHEREAS, Officers Mike Adams, Jack Conley, Lou Gregoire, 
  1-33  Jack Moody, Thomas Pickens, Mike Saunders, Scott Schunk, and 
  1-34  Tim Thompson are the dedicated men who made the dream of

  2- 1  creating a top notch DUI task force in Gwinnett County a 
  2- 2  reality. 
 
  2- 3  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  2- 4  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and 
  2- 5  honor the Gwinnett County Police Department's DUI Task Force 
  2- 6  for their outstanding work and wish them continued success 
  2- 7  in the honorable war against drunk driving. 
 
  2- 8  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 9  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
