A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Recognizing the Pleasant Springs area in Laurens County as a
1- 2 community; and for other purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Pleasant Springs is located on the Old Savannah
1- 4 Road in the Oconee District of Laurens County, in what was
1- 5 formerly known as the Johnson Community; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, by 1860, this area was known as Pleasant Springs;
1- 7 and
1- 8 WHEREAS, Pleasant Springs developed and grew in conjunction
1- 9 with the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church. Families banded
1-10 together there to worship, learn, and work together for the
1-11 good of their friends, neighbors, and state; and
1-12 WHEREAS, the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church has been an
1-13 integral part of life in the Pleasant Springs community for
1-14 over 100 years. In fact, the church served as a mission
1-15 station during the Civil War; and
1-16 WHEREAS, the residents of the Pleasant Springs area have
1-17 developed and fostered a strong sense of community and
1-18 fellowship and would like to be recognized as a community by
1-19 the State of Georgia; and
1-20 WHEREAS, it is through the strength of such communities that
1-21 Georgia has become a powerhouse of the New South and a
1-22 wonderful place to live and work.
1-23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-24 REPRESENTATIVES that the Pleasant Springs area in Laurens
1-25 County be recognized as a community in honor of its place in
1-26 Georgia history.
1-27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation
1-28 is authorized and urged either to erect and maintain
1-29 appropriate signs so designating the community or to assist
1-30 the community in developing and erecting its own appropriate
1-31 signs.
1-32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
1-33 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit
1-34 appropriate copies of this resolution to Emory Lake as

2- 1 chairman of the Laurens County Board of Commissioners and to
2- 2 the Department of Transportation.
