                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Proposing an amendment to the Constitution so as to 
  1- 2  authorize the General Assembly to determine by law the term 
  1- 3  of office for members of the State Transportation Board; to 
  1- 4  provide for submission of this amendment for ratification or 
  1- 5  rejection; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 6       BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 7                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 8  Article IV, Section IV, Paragraph I of the Constitution is 
  1- 9  amended by striking in its entirety subparagraph (a) and 
  1-10  inserting in lieu thereof the following: 
 
  1-11      "(a) There shall be a State Transportation Board 
  1-12    composed of as many members as there are congressional 
  1-13    districts in the state.  The member of the board from each 
  1-14    congressional district shall be elected by a majority vote 
  1-15    of the members of the House of Representatives and Senate 
  1-16    whose respective districts are embraced or partly embraced 
  1-17    within such congressional district meeting in caucus.  The 
  1-18    members of the board in office on June 30, 1983 January 1, 
  1-19    2000 shall serve out the remainder of their respective 
  1-20    terms.  The General Assembly shall provide by law the 
  1-21    procedure for the election of members, for the term of 
  1-22    office for members, and for filling vacancies on the 
  1-23    board. Members shall serve for terms of five years and 
  1-24    until their successors are elected and qualified." 
 
  1-25                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-26  The above proposed amendment to the Constitution shall be 
  1-27  published and submitted as provided in Article X, Section I, 
  1-28  Paragraph II of the Constitution. 
 
  1-29  The ballot submitting the above proposed amendment shall 
  1-30  have written or printed thereon the following: 
 
  1-31    "(  ) YES Shall the Constitution be amended so as to 
  1-32              authorize the General Assembly to provide by 
  1-33     (  ) NO  law for the term of office for members of the 
  1-34              State Transportation Board?"

  2- 1  All persons desiring to vote in favor of ratifying the 
  2- 2  proposed amendment shall vote "Yes."  All persons desiring 
  2- 3  to vote against ratifying the proposed amendment shall vote 
  2- 4  "No." 
 
  2- 5  If such amendment shall be ratified as provided in said 
  2- 6  Paragraph of the Constitution, it shall become a part of the
