A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Recognizing Honorable William J. Lee; and for other
1- 2 purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Honorable William J. Lee of Forest Park, Georgia,
1- 4 is well known to the members of this legislative body having
1- 5 been elected in 1956 to the Georgia House of Representatives
1- 6 where he served continuously from 1957 until the 1999
1- 7 session convened; and
1- 8 WHEREAS, in recognition of his long record of distinguished
1- 9 service, Representative Lee held the title "Dean of the
1-10 House" and his expertise and experience earned him key
1-11 legislative roles throughout his career; and
1-12 WHEREAS, as the Majority Caucus Chairman and the Rules
1-13 Committee Chairman, his influence and keen parliamentary
1-14 skills could virtually ensure the success of well-designed
1-15 legislation, and his advice and counsel were actively
1-16 sought; and
1-17 WHEREAS, his presence in this body has been sorely missed as
1-18 his spontaneity, good humor, and quick wit could unnerve the
1-19 best and the brightest of colleagues and make lively
1-20 otherwise tedious debate; and
1-21 WHEREAS, during this session he has joined a circle of
1-22 members and friends, including Representatives Benefield,
1-23 Hudson, Ray, Royal, Scheid, Smith, and Stancil and Doorman
1-24 Tribble, for breakfast each morning; and
1-25 WHEREAS, his personal choice for this meal is none other
1-26 than grapefruit (we should have guessed) which is by nature
1-27 both tart and thick skinned; and as a token of friendship
1-28 and a bit of sheer jest, a fine grapefruit spoon was
1-29 presented to him a while back as a symbol of our good
1-30 friend's fine social tact.
1-31 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-32 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize
1-33 Honorable William J. Lee, a wonderful gentleman and dear
1-34 friend, and convey to him their great pleasure in enjoying
1-35 his company during this session and their open invitation
1-36 for the future.
-1-
2- 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2- 2 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2- 3 appropriate copy of this resolution to Honorable William J.
2- 4 Lee.
