                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending Horace L. Richards; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 2  WHEREAS, Horace Richards' many and outstanding contributions 
  1- 3  to the citizens of Cherokee County and the State of Georgia 
  1- 4  were recently recognized by the Canton Rotary Club when it 
  1- 5  awarded him the Lamar Haley Community Service Award; and 
 
  1- 6  WHEREAS, after a long and distinguished career in the 
  1- 7  textile industry, Horace Richards co-founded his own 
  1- 8  successful business, the Richards Lighting Center; and 
 
  1- 9  WHEREAS, while building his career and business, Horace 
  1-10  Richards simultaneously tackled many challenges in his 
  1-11  church and community, serving as a lay minister for 27 years 
  1-12  and as a leading member of the Canton Rotary Club for 30 
  1-13  years; and 
 
  1-14  WHEREAS, Horace Richards' organizational skills and 
  1-15  motivational abilities placed him at the helm of many 
  1-16  organizations with which he was affiliated, and he has 
  1-17  served as District Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America, 
  1-18  President of the Canton Rotary Club, President of the 
  1-19  Parent-Teacher Association for Canton Elementary and Hickory 
  1-20  Flats Elementary Schools, and Chairman of the Cherokee 
  1-21  County Board of Elections and Registration; and 
 
  1-22  WHEREAS, throughout his exemplary career of community 
  1-23  service, Horace Richards has earned many honors, including 
  1-24  the Rotarian of the Year Award. 
 
  1-25  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-26  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and 
  1-27  commend Horace L. Richards for his extraordinary 
  1-28  contributions to Cherokee County and the State of Georgia 
  1-29  and congratulate him on the occasion of receiving the Canton 
  1-30  Rotary Club's Lamar Haley Community Service Award. 
 
  1-31  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-32  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  1-33  appropriate copy of this resolution to Horace L. Richards.
