A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending Robert Stubbs; and for other purposes.
1- 2 WHEREAS, Robert Stubbs' many and outstanding contributions
1- 3 to the citizens of Cherokee County and the State of Georgia
1- 4 were recently recognized by the Canton Rotary Club when it
1- 5 awarded him the Lamar Haley Community Service Award; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, Robert Stubbs, who retired as a colonel after 21
1- 7 years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps and is a former
1- 8 member of Emory Law School faculty, is a person whose
1- 9 leadership and dedication have brought success to many
1-10 community projects; and
1-11 WHEREAS, an example of Robert Stubbs' exemplary leadership
1-12 is his initiation of the Cherokee Family Violence Shelter,
1-13 where, as chairman of the Law and Society Committee of the
1-14 First United Methodist Church of Canton, he identified the
1-15 need for a shelter, garnered support from within the church
1-16 as well as the entire community, and structured the
1-17 shelter's organization and operations in a way that assures
1-18 its long-term stability; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Robert Stubbs has lent his superior legal talent to
1-20 many civic and charitable organizations, including the
1-21 American Legion and the Canton Rotary Club, thereby ensuring
1-22 the strength of the organizations and their benevolent
1-23 missions; has helped many individuals through his free
1-24 seminars on various legal issues; and has passed on to our
1-25 youth the virtues of citizenship through his participation
1-26 in Eagle Scout and Law Day activities; and
1-27 WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan recognized Robert Stubbs'
1-28 exemplary legal and managerial talent when he appointed Mr.
1-29 Stubbs to serve on the national board of directors of the
1-30 Legal Services Corporation, and, in that position, Robert
1-31 Stubbs worked vigorously to make local offices more
1-32 efficient and accountable in their delivery of legal
1-33 services to the disadvantaged; and
1-34 WHEREAS, Robert Stubbs has long been an active member of the
1-35 Canton Rotary Club, where he has served as chairman of many

2- 1 committees, including programs, membership, and bylaws, and
2- 2 on the board of directors.
2- 3 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2- 4 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and
2- 5 commend Robert Stubbs for his extraordinary contributions to
2- 6 Cherokee County and the State of Georgia and congratulate
2- 7 him on the occasion of receiving the Canton Rotary Club's
2- 8 Lamar Haley Community Service Award.
2- 9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2-10 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2-11 appropriate copy of this resolution to Robert Stubbs.
