                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending Kermit F. "K" Bates, Jr.; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 2  WHEREAS, Kermit F. "K" Bates faithfully served the 179th 
  1- 3  District in the Georgia House of Representatives with a 
  1- 4  combination of wisdom, intelligence, strength, and good 
  1- 5  humor; and 
 
  1- 6  WHEREAS, during his five terms in office he served at 
  1- 7  different times in Decatur, Grady, Thomas, and Seminole 
  1- 8  counties with distinction and dedication; and 
 
  1- 9  WHEREAS, he always kept the best interests of the citizens 
  1-10  of this state paramount in his decision making, without 
  1-11  regard to partisan politics or outside pressures; and 
 
  1-12  WHEREAS, he served most of his tenure as a member of the 
  1-13  Banks and Banking Committee, the State Institutions and 
  1-14  Property Committee, and as the vice chairman of the State 
  1-15  Planning and Community Affairs Committee; and 
 
  1-16  WHEREAS, he returned to his native Decatur County where he 
  1-17  founded Bates and Associates, a leading construction firm in 
  1-18  the southeast, and also found time to serve his community as 
  1-19  chairman of the Industrial Development Authority, chairman 
  1-20  of the Bainbridge College Foundation, member of the Memorial 
  1-21  Hospital Foundation, as well as being a faithful member of 
  1-22  the First United Methodist Church and the Rotary Club; and 
 
  1-23  WHEREAS, during his lifetime of public service and private 
  1-24  business he has earned a well deserved reputation of being a 
  1-25  man of character, whose word was his bond, and whose 
  1-26  integrity was unquestioned; and 
 
  1-27  WHEREAS, he is married to the former Sally Hawkins, who has 
  1-28  been his partner in business and public service, and whose 
  1-29  devotion to him is known throughout the state. 
 
  1-30  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-31  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body unanimously 
  1-32  honor and commend their former colleague, Kermit F. "K" 
  1-33  Bates, Jr., for his many years of dedicated service to 
  1-34  Decatur County and the State of Georgia, and wish him ever 
  1-35  success in all his future endeavors.

  2- 2  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
