A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending the Hightower family and the associates of
1- 2 Thomaston Mills, Inc., for achieving 100 years in operation
1- 3 as a leading textile manufacturer; and for other purposes.
1- 4 WHEREAS, Thomaston Mills, Inc., was chartered on December 2,
1- 5 1899, as a cotton sheeting manufacturer; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, the direction of the company has been forged by
1- 7 four generations of the Hightower family, including current
1- 8 President and Chief Executive Officer Neil H. Hightower, Sr.
1- 9 and today the company is a diversified manufacturer of
1-10 textile products for the apparel, homes funishings, and
1-11 industrial markets; and
1-12 WHEREAS, the company employs 2,300 associates company wide
1-13 at five plants in Upson and Pike counties in Georgia; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Thomaston Mills is a champion of encouraging
1-15 environmental excellence and promoting a safe workplace and
1-16 has been honored nationally for its efforts in both areas;
1-17 and
1-18 WHEREAS, the company has been recognized by the State of
1-19 Georgia for its initiatives to offer education and training
1-20 opportunities to its associates, providing the means for a
1-21 workforce that is prepared to meet the challenges of the
1-22 21st century; and
1-23 WHEREAS, the Hightower family and the associates of
1-24 Thomaston Mills have served the City of Thomaston through
1-25 their contributions to and involvement with many church and
1-26 civic organizations; and
1-27 WHEREAS, Thomaston Mills has played an integral part in the
1-28 rich history and well-documented success of the Georgia
1-29 textile industry, the state's largest manufacturing
1-30 employer.
1-31 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-32 REPRESENTATIVES that the Hightower family and the associates
1-33 of Thomaston Mills, Inc., are commended for the 100th year
1-34 of operation as a leading textile manufacturer in Georgia, a
1-35 community steward to Upson County and the middle Georgia

2- 1 area and for establishing a tradition of innovative
2- 2 technology, excellence in manufacturing, and loyalty to the
2- 3 community.
2- 4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2- 5 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit
2- 6 appropriate copies of this resolution to Neil H. Hightower,
2- 7 Sr., and the associates of Thomaston Mills, Inc.
