A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending John P. Chatfield; and for other purposes.
1- 2 WHEREAS, John P. Chatfield recently retired after nearly 22
1- 3 years of exemplary service to the Department of Industry,
1- 4 Trade, and Tourism; and
1- 5 WHEREAS, he answered his country's call to defend liberty
1- 6 and served in the United States Air Corps from August, 1943
1- 7 to September, 1945; and
1- 8 WHEREAS, he earned his bachelor's degree in Industrial
1- 9 Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1949;
1-10 and
1-11 WHEREAS, he was an active member of the Rotary Club with
1-12 perfect attendance for more than 20 years; and
1-13 WHEREAS, his distinguished career with the Department of
1-14 Industry, Trade, and Tourism included service under four
1-15 Georgia Governors and close cooperation with ten Presidents
1-16 of the Georgia Economic Developers Association; and
1-17 WHEREAS, his outstanding abilities to help businesses find
1-18 the right location for their specific needs led more than
1-19 250 companies to locate in Georgia; and
1-20 WHEREAS, his unparalleled efforts for economic development
1-21 have benefitted every corner of the state, generating
1-22 thousands of jobs for Georgians and increasing prosperity
1-23 throughout the state; and
1-24 WHEREAS, the companies he assisted to locate in Georgia
1-25 include: Sunbeam in Waynesboro, Trane Corporation in
1-26 Vidalia, Outboard Marine Corporation in Calhoun, American
1-27 Steel Products in Swainsboro, and Dowling Textiles in
1-28 Eastman.
1-29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-30 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend John
1-31 P. Chatfield for his enthusiastic and effective advocacy for
1-32 Georgia as a great place to do business, and extend sincere
1-33 hopes for many happy golfing days during his retirement.

2- 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2- 2 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2- 3 appropriate copy of this resolution to John P. Chatfield.
