                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending the Wayne County High School Lady Jackets 
  1- 2  softball team and inviting the team to appear before the 
  1- 3  House of Representatives; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 4  WHEREAS, the 1998 Wayne County High School Lady Jackets 
  1- 5  softball team ended a 31 year drought when it became the 
  1- 6  first high school team state champion based in Jesup, 
  1- 7  Georgia, since 1967; and 
 
  1- 8  WHEREAS, the Lady Jackets, expertly coached by Barbara 
  1- 9  Struckhoff, swept through the Class AAAA/AAA slow-pitch 
  1-10  state finals undefeated in four games and proved that 
  1-11  champions are not born--they are made; and 
 
  1-12  WHEREAS, in the critical championship game, the Lady Jackets 
  1-13  defeated a tough opponent in the Lady Gators of Ware County 
  1-14  High School in a nip-and-tuck war that took eight innings to 
  1-15  decide and gave Coach Struckhoff her first state title in 21 
  1-16  years of softball coaching; and 
 
  1-17  WHEREAS, in compiling a 22-6 record for the season, the Lady 
  1-18  Jackets played incredible softball sometimes under adverse 
  1-19  conditions and in so doing demonstrated to their fans and 
  1-20  opponents alike the strength of their will to win and their 
  1-21  dedication and love for the game; and 
 
  1-22  WHEREAS, every member of the team and staff deserves credit 
  1-23  and commendation for a thrilling and successful season and, 
  1-24  more importantly, for demonstrating the kind of character 
  1-25  that will serve them well in their future endeavors; and 
 
  1-26  WHEREAS, the success of the 1998 Wayne County High School 
  1-27  Lady Jackets softball team has energized and inspired an 
  1-28  entire community and lifted the spirit of the school. 
 
  1-29  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-30  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate 
  1-31  the Wayne County High School Lady Jackets softball team on 
  1-32  winning the AAAA/AAA state championship and extend to them 
  1-33  best wishes for continued success. 
 
  1-34  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Wayne County High School 
  1-35  Lady Jackets softball team be invited to appear before the

  2- 1  House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined 
  2- 2  by the Speaker of the House. 
 
  2- 3  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 4  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  2- 5  appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach Barbara
